Once common throughout the Andes, the spectacled bear is now critically endangered. Visits to the project are organized with advanced coordination to gain insight into the world of these large mammals (the only bear species in South America), and learn about the challenges they face to survive in today’s world. Weather and what to wear

Machu Picchu has a subtropical highland climate-warm and humid during the day and cold at night-with temperatures varying between 8°C (46° F) and 22°C (72° F). Humidity ranges between 77% and 91% and annual rainfall is 400-1000 mm (16-39 inches). Dry season is from May to October and the orchid season runs from November to April. The Citadel is surrounded by the Andean Cloud Forest, a wet, tropical forest characterized by a presence of some clouds even in the dry season. It is recommended to wear light cotton clothes during the day, but bring a wet weather coat and warm clothes for the nights. The outdoor Andean sun is strong and sun blocks are strongly recommended as well as mosquito repellants for outings at night.

We recommend that you bring:

  • Comfortable clothes for walking, a light jacket and rain gear
  • Walking or trekking shoes
  • Binoculars
  • Sunblock, sunhat, sunglasses, mosquito repellent and lip balm
  • Electricity voltage is 220v - some converters are available at the hotel but it would we suggest to bring your own converter
  • Contact lenses solution and an extra set of contact lenses (if required)
  • Extra batteries or chargers for your camera & video equipment**. Thank you for considering that Peru does not have a battery recycling project. Please take your used batteries with you, or leave them at the Ecocenter.

My husband and I just came back from a wonderful stay (3 nights/4 days). We spent the most wonderful and relaxing weekend.

Inkaterra is a very well known Peruvian hotel chain with very high quality standards, so staying in one of their hotels is guaranteed.

At first we were a bit confused about how will we handle the no wi-fi stay, no air con and limited electricity but being there we agreed that those were some of the factors that made our stay so unique.

Very comfortable cottages, be sure to get one with a river view. Comfortable beds, very good service, great food and amazing excursions. We did the 2 night tours, Lake Sandoval and a private birdwatching excursion. All of them different but totally worth doing. We missed the other excursions but will be back soon.

I highly recommend the stay. Don't worry about insects or any dangerous animals.
Wonderful massage looking at the river.

For the hotel I would recommend to give more bottles of water per room or put more water dispensers (the eco house is a bit far away in the night) and take out the music (or put very soft music) in the dining room.

    A great stay !

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful time staying here for 4 days and 3 nights (2 days were for travelling and 2 full days for excursions). The staff were all wonderful and made us feel very welcomed and relaxed. Loved our cabana and forest surroundings. We saw a sloth on one of the trees at the lodge! The piranha fishing excursion to lake Valentia was really fun but was a fairly long boat ride. Also did the lake Sandova excursion, nightwalks and Canopy walk. Loved all the activities. Definitely a highlight during our Peru trip. However be mindful how many animals/ birds you see really depends on nature and your luck. We saw three different species of monkeys and a lot of birds. There were caymans during the night river excursion.

A big thank you to all the staff who made our holiday fun and relaxing :)

My husband and I had excellent down time together. The cabanas were stunning, the service was amazing, Dante, Gustavo, Heydy and more, and the excursions pleased both of us! There is no Wifi during this trip, but it isn't missed at all. I love the ability to have options, and to do what is in your comfort level. Great for us, and I'm sure great for the family too!
