Natural & Holistic Therapies
LAGOONS, SALT FLATS AND SLEEPING GIANTS
7:00 am. Departure from Copiapó.
8:00 am. Puquios Ruins and "Chaos" (1,248 m.a.s.l.): we begin our adventure in the Precordillera, visiting the ruins of Puquios, a mining town of yesteryear that housed nearly 5,000 inhabitants. Next to these ruins, there is one of the most striking geological expressions of the region, the "Puquios Chaos", made up by volcanic rocks associated to lava flows and intensely deformed marine materials. These rocks are chaotically mixed as a result of the internal forces of the Earth, which during millions of years has deformed and denuded the materials; this surprising mixture will be explained in the field and we will travel to the geological past to understand how our territory has changed.
12:00 am. Santa Rosa Lagoon (3,762 m.a.s.l.) and flamingo sighting: Chile's tectonic, magmatic and climatic conditions have developed an important depression in this sector, the Salar de Maricunga basin, where a quiet lagoon currently rests, surrounded by numerous inactive volcanoes and majestic flamingos that adorn the landscape.
2:00 pm. Salar de Maricunga (3,756 m.a.s.l.): this salt flat is connected to the Santa Rosa Lagoon, forming part of the same basin. We will visit an opening developed in the salt flat where water emerges, known as the "eye". Its intense color will not leave you indifferent.
3:30 pm. Laguna Verde + hot springs (4,328 m.a.s.l.): in our last stop we will go to Laguna Verde, a hypersaline mountain water body that exceeds 4,000 m.a.s.l., its magical tones invite us to contemplate and relax. Next to the lagoon, cozy thermal waters emerge from the depths of the Earth.
SEA OF DUNES
3:30 pm. Departure from Copiapó
4:50 pm. Quebrada de Las Pinturas: This desert site has fractured intrusive rock walls, where it is possible to find about 30 pre-Hispanic manifestations, probably painted locally from iron oxides. They have an average height of 60 cm, although some reach 150 cm. Camelid and anthropomorphic designs are observed, the latter associated with the Middle Period of local prehistory (600-900 AD)
6:30 pm. Medanoso Dune + Sanboard: why do dunes form, where does such a large amount of sand come from? This and other answers will be given on the spot! We will also enjoy an entertaining day of sanboarding in the most arid desert on the planet! Finally, we will do astrophotography and a walk under the cleanest night skies in the world.
8:30 pm. Night sky walk:
9:30 p.m. Return
NINCHIES, THE PLANET AT YOUR FEET.
8:00 am. Departure from Copiapó.
9:00 am. Angostura sector, Copiapo river.
10:30 am. Seasons.
11:30 am. Geological risks.
11:45 am. "False Meteorite" of Puerto Viejo.
12:15 pm. Playa Blanca.
1:30 pm. Lunch at Bahía Inglesa.
3:30 pm. Sailing.
5:30 pm. Return.
You will visit an orchard in the desert; wonderful waterfalls of the Copiapó River inserted in the middle of rocky walls of 192 million years. Then, we will go to the coast to visit traces of an ancient telluric event recorded in sedimentary layers of a recognized geological formation. We will continue with the visit to a supposed... meteorite crater, a mystery that we will discover in the field along with geological evidence and chemical tools. The land route ends in a picturesque port, where we will learn more about geological hazards, and then embark on a sailing boat and begin a quiet navigation through the Pacific.

Posted onHighly recommendedEverything about this trip was just amazing, from a comfortable jeep, to great lunch and a really cool guide. The trip is long but worth it, since it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and easly my favorite trip in Chile. I highly recommend this trip and Geo Adventure Tours.
Posted onWe would really recommend it to everyone! It was a wonderful experience. The nature is so beautiful you can't describe! It's a must to for everyone! Geoadventures did a very nice job. The guide on our tour was Viktor, he lives and works for 18 years in the area. So he knew a lot about it and was very kind and a good driver.
