La Casa de Loto is a Meditation and Yoga Retreat Center, high up in the magical Colombian mountains, founded and run by Pema Tsering. Here we offer you daily guided meditations, yoga classes, question and answer rounds, freshly cooked organic food, and a variety of optional massages and treatments. Our guests come here for many reasons, but they all amount to essentially the same thing — wanting a more easeful relationship with life. The place is surrounded by beautiful nature, and our experienced teachers and staff create the ideal conditions for you to turn inward, letting go, and to reconnect to the essence of life, where lasting happiness can be found. You find us only 1 hour away from Medellin City, and 40 minutes from its international airport MDE/JMC.
At the heart of all our programs are the Buddhist and Vedic practices of samatha meditation (calming the mind), vipassana meditation (insight into the nature of phenomena), yoga asanas (postures), and pranayama (breathing exercises). To support your stay and inner growth, we also imply a practice of noble silence for five days each week, which is essential for cultivating more awareness of who we really are. All doubts can be cleared up in our daily question and answer rounds, which take place after the guided meditation

Posted onFROM SADNESS TO SANCTUARYI had just experienced a major death in my life and was seeking solitude...a place where I could go and stay longer than a week. I also wanted to avoid the typical activity-filled energetic yoga retreat. I wanted to get quiet and go within.
I could not have chosen a more perfect place for self-reflection in staying at La Casa de Loto for 6 weeks. Pema Tsering, Tibetan Meditation teacher (Dalai Lama lineage) and host, gave guests (always groups of 12 or less) the opportunity to explore a mostly self-directed meditation experience. I was given a daily schedule of meditations to follow, which included samatha, vipassana and walking meditations. The more I challenged myself to adhere to the schedule and hold noble silence - the more aware, connected and joyful I felt. There was a daily teaching with Q&A and a gentle yoga class offered, which beautifully supported the body allowing me to sink more comfortably into my daily sitting postures.
The property was lush with paths to explore the grounds. The accommodations were very comfortable and kept extremely clean by a lovely housekeeping staff. We were served 3 Ayurvedically-inspired meals daily by Mery Hortua, who is the heart of the kitchen. I felt so nurtured by the love she puts into her cuisine. There were extraordinary healing bodywork practitioners, who traveled to the Casa to offer weekly sessions for an additional fee, but very fairly priced given their level of expertise!
There is much more I could share about my time with the Casa de Loto family, but I’ll simply add that I would return again and I highly recommend this experience, especially for those seeking a more sacred getaway regardless of your level of meditation. Start here. Breathe in the beauty. Leave with more gratitude.
