Posted onInspiring - The place to stay in this neck of the woodsThank you RL for a wonderful time.
Inspiring and relaxing at the same time.
It was so much better than I had preconceived beforehand. The lodges are so well appointed in order to make sure that no lodge overlooks another but close enough to give a sense of community. Inside the lodges look as if they were just built they are so clean and new.
The food was wonderful showing just how good one can make vegetarian food. The classes were excellent although totally optional for those just wishing a peaceful forest retreat.
The road to the retreat is through the forests which itself is a journey.
If you are passing by then you really should stop and stay here. If you are travelling down from North California to San Diego or vice versa on vacation then definitely stay here.
Why ? well because this is not a beach property (although 15 Minutes from the beautiful Stump Beach Cove) and you will have plenty of opportunity to stay on the beach on your way up or down the coast.
Instead this gives the person passing through the opportunity to see another part of California. The northern redwoods namely. Also wild turkey and deer roam freely on the grounds.
For those looking for a peaceful retreat for meditation and healthy food please check in before the word gets around.
Peace and friendship awaits. It did for us !
Thank you again RL for a wonderful experience.
Posted onI loved my stay at Ratna LingI booked a personal retreat at Ratna Ling after traveling for months, as a way to regroup before the holidays. A bit difficult to find, the place is a hidden jewel. Ratna Ling is a fully functioning residential community, with a publishing company on its grounds. However, the personal retreats are across the street in a separate area. All rooms are private cabins wonderfully outfitted with luxury bedding, sitting rooms, small refrigerators, coffee/tea facilities, spacious bathrooms, and decks either looking at over redwoods, the next valley, or the grounds. The price of your cottage includes all meals, and guests can join the community for morning meditations, and/or yoga classes if one desires. The food is good, but there were a few blips, which could be explained by the fact that their chef became ill, and an emergency replacement chef cooked a few meals that were frankly barely edible including some sort of lentil loaf. However, before the demise of the chef the meals were wonderful, fresh, and as much as possible locally sourced. There is a genuine air of serenity at Ratna Ling, and a clear desire by those who live there to create a place for reflection, healing, and growth. There are some good hiking trails nearby that take one through redwoods to the beach, but in general one goes there to stay at the retreat center, rest, regroup, and heal. They accomplish this better than almost anyone else I know.
Posted onWhat a magnificent retreat!I was at ratna ling for a 5 day yoga retreat this past weekend and it was beyond beautiful! The food was absolutely phenomenal at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The surrounding area is picturesque, the cottages are simple and clean with porches that look out to redwoods and green pastures. The staff was lovely, very helpful, and flexible. If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful place to rejuvenate and breathe, this is the real deal.
